A little bit of what I do
These are some of the things that I have done. I hope you enjoy them!
Participation in Science Outreach Events
Since I love cross-disciplinary, I have participated in a long list of science outreach events, such as: Nano2All Stakeholders Debate (Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology & Graphene Flagship); Design Does Forum (Elisava & Museu del Disseny); Design Attitudes (Elisava); GoNano Stakeholders Debate (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology); Research in 4′ (Universitat Pompeu Fabra); etc.

Materials and Materials Physics Lecturer
I have imparted lessons in the fields of Materials and Materials Physics in the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering, the Degree in Design, and the Masters in Design through New Materials.

Design Thinking Workshops for Companies
I have designed and performed creative sessions using design thinking methodologies for companies with different purposes.

Research Kiosk
The Research Kiosk is a project that was conceptualized in the New HoRRIzon 1st Social Lab on Responsible Research and Innovation as a Pilot Action of the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions. With the initial briefing being given, I designed three workshops and a whole toolkit of creative methods to promote public engagement with science. We applied the toolkit and performed the workshops in Barcelona and in Lisbon. In them, both citizens and scientists were asked to ideate a tool or strategy to connect science with the public.

Participation in the 3rd New HoRRIzon Social Lab
After performing the Research Kiosk workshops, I was invited to participate in the 3rd Social Lab on Responsible Research and Innovation of the MSCA. We worked on four different Pilot Actions and conceptualized their next steps.

Creative Session in the ChromDesign Winter School
ChromDesign is an interdisciplinary network of 10 European academic and private institutions whose aim is to characterize how 3D chromatin organisation affects gene regulation during cellular differentiation and in several human disorders. It includes 13 research projects in imaging, cell biology, genomics and communication. I designed and performed a creative session for the ChromDesign Winter School that helped the scientists define the complexity of the whole project, as well as their roles in it and their interactions.

Graphene in the Classroom
I designed and performed three workshops called “Graphene in the Classroom” as a case study to analyze if participatory design methodologies could communicate a scientific topic such as graphene to highschool students. To do so, I designed an educational toolkit that included different games and activities, as well as a map that they had to fill in as a group activity. The students loved the workshop and after some months they still remembered what they had learned about graphene.

Participation in the MCAA Annual Conference and General Assembly Social Activities
I was invited to participate in the Marie Curie Alumni Association Annual Conference and General Assembly, that was held in Vienna, as part of a science comedy show called “The Dark Side of Science”. I presented my research based on graphene in a humorous way that the public loved 🙂

Creativity Workshops with Graphene
I designed and performed four workshops to communicate graphene to society. Different groups of citizens that were not related to science participated in these creative sessions, where they learned what graphene was (they could even see it and touch it), and then they had to imagine and prototype possible applications for the material.

Participation in the CRG 5th Barcelona Science Slam Workshop
The Barcelona Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) organizes two science slams per year. I participated in the preparatory workshop for the 5th Science Slam. It was a great experience where scientists from different fields communicated our research in very fun ways.

Winner of the CRG 5th Barcelona Science Slam
I was the winner of the 5th Barcelona Science Slam, organized by the Centre for Genomic Regulation. The event was part of the City and Science Biennale of Barcelona (2019). The challenge was to present a research project in a funny and understandable way for a non-expert audience.

Graphene Days
Together with Elisava and Materplat, I designed, organized and performed five workshops for Spain’s Materials Cluster called the Graphene Days. The goal was to create a network of laboratories and companies interested in graphene so they could work together in the future to create new applications for graphene. Each of these workshops had a central topic: (1) Construction and Habitat, (2) Energy, (3) Food Industry and Packaging, (4) Transports, and (5) Medicine and Healthcare. Up to 24 companies and laboratories assisted in each workshop. There were talks in the morning and creative sessions in the afternoon, and they were performed in Barcelona, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Valencia, Madrid, and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Participation in the Seeing Nano Project
Thanks to Hannie van den Bergh, I could participate in the Seeing Nano project. We organized a Nano Origami workshop in Elisava with students of the Degree in Design. You can find more information on the Seeing Nano project at https://www.studio-hb.nl/

Application of the Nano Memory with Engineering Students
Thanks to Hannie van den Bergh and the Seeing Nano project, I received some Nano Memory games, which I used in various occasions with students of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering. You can find more information on the Seeing Nano project at https://www.studio-hb.nl/

Participation in the content development for three Elisava’s exhibitions
I curated the Materfad & Elisava at Construmat exhibition, which consisted of a materials exhibition in a construction conference. I also collaborated in developing the content of the graphene section of the Design Does exhibition (Museu del Disseny de Barcelona) and the Decoding – Zoom in Design exhibition (Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica).
